Adventures of a new affiliate marketer

This blog is about my journey into the arcane world of affiliate marketing. I will be continuously updating as I learn more and get further into it. First let me give you a little background on me and how I discovered affiliate marketing. I own a successful company made up of six call centers around the world. No we are not the ones that call you a dinner time but do polls, surveys and customer service. It has taken me eighteen years to get where I am today. The call center business is not for the faint of heart it is hard work and constant monitoring of reports and keeping clients happy.
I happened to be reading Web 2.0 on a trip and there was a interesting article about a company that does affiliate marketing in a very large way. I was fascinated, it sounded like a area that our company would fit into nicely with web people on staff and some generally very smart people around me. The first thing I did was a web search on affiliate marketing. Good Lord, I was over whelmed with people making hundreds of thousands of dollars from their kitchen table. Most of these people seemed to be only working four hours a day. Ok after eighteen years of building a business I was thinking what the heck am I getting myself into? I purchased several books on affiliate marketing I also read every think on the net about affiliate marketing and avoiding the get rich quick schemes. Now by nature I am a cautious person.
The first thing I did was go out an purchase about fifteen domains of areas I thought we might want to be involved in. I discovered a site where I could park the domains they put a template on each domain name place advertising on the pages and split the proceeds with me. Sounded like a win win situation. I figured we would do this till we could build pages and get them out there. Now six weeks later I have made .02 cents. A far cry from the thousands of dollars I figured on lol.
Now we are entering into stage two we have built a page on health beauty placed articles and gone to Google adsense. They select the ads for you and you place them around the content. That page goes live today.
This blog is to track our success or failures in the affiliate marketing, either way it has actually been a lot of fun so far.
